Coleman Elementary School receives Title I funds.  These funds are used by the school for a variety of programs and activities to increase children's academic achievement-especially in reading and math.  Title I funds are provided by the federal government, through the Texas Education Agency, and are distributed to schools based on the number of low-income students (eligible for free or reduced lunches).  However, low income is only used to distribute funds.  Students are selected to receive Title I services based on academic need.  Coleman Elementary is a School-Wide program.  This means that our Title I money can be used to upgrade the educational program in ways that impact every student in the school.

As a Title I Parent you have the following rights under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB):

• Request the qualifications of your child's teacher(s)
• Be notified if your child is taught for more than 4 consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified
• Request opportunities for regular meetings with staff in order to make suggestions
• Participate in decisions relating to the education of your child
• Submit a written comment on the School-Wide Program Plan, available in the Student Handbook and on the Campus Web Site under Parent Resources, if you are not satisfied with the plan
